The Dorji Lopen of the Central Monastic Body conferred Dhar to seven new appointees at the Trashichhodzong in Thimphu this morning. The new appointments include a president, new lams, a chief administrator and a Toetsi jim recipient.
Khenchen Karma from Wangdue Phodrang has been appointed as the President of the Tango University of Buddhist Studies. For the past 25 years, he served as a lecturer at the Tango University and Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University. He was the Vice President of the Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University before his present appointment.
48-year-old Peljor from Wangdue Phodrang is the new Lam of Dongkokha Monastery at Guma Gewog in Punakha. He enrolled as a monk at the age of 11 and graduated from Tango University in 2007. He also served as the Principal of Simtokha Buddhist Institute.
50-year-old Gyem Tshering from Punakha has been appointed as the Lam of Dokar Tsiphu monastery in Paro. He served as a teacher at Lhadzong Monastic School for 20 years.
47-year-old Karma Tshering from Chhukha is the new Lam of Chimithangka monastery. He enrolled as a monk in Pung-Thim Central Monastic School at the age of 15 and graduated from Tango University. He also meditated for two years at Chari and underwent a three-year retreat twice at Pelgi Ri and once at Tango.
Sangchu from Wangdue Phodrang is the new Lam of the Bhutan monastery in Bodh Gaya, India. Lam Sangchu joined the central monastic body at the age of eight and completed his studies at Dechen Phodrang Central Monastic School and Lekshey Jungney Shedra. He completed his three-year retreat at Chizhi Samtenchoeling Drubdhey. Before this appointment, he served as the Dratshang Choepoen.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Kinley Taw from Punakha has been appointed as the Chief Administrator of the Central Monastic Body. He became a monk at the age of 10 by joining the Dechhenphodrang Monastic School and graduated from Talo Sheydra. Before his present post, he served as the Chief Clerk.
And 40-year-old Khenpo Karma Thinley from Wangdue Phodrang has been awarded the Toetsi Jim for his exceptional dedication and service to the DeSuung skilling programme. Khenpo Karma Thinley became a monk at the age of 8 and completed his studies at Dechen Phodrang Central Monastic School, Dodeydra Shedra, and Tango Buddhist Institute.
