The actual construction works of the new Sarpang Dzong formally commenced today with the installation of Sachu Bumter at the site by Laytshog Lopen of Central Monastic Body.
The dzong will be built on an area of over 11 acres at Sarpang Tar where the present dzongkhag administration building is located.
The project is worth Nu 1bn and is being funded by the Government of India. The deadline for the completion of the project is 2023. Once complete, the dzong will become an administrative centre and also accommodate rabdey and dratshangs in Sarpang.
