More than 12,000 students pass the BHSEC examination

The Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment (BCSEA) declared the results for the 2020 Bhutan Higher Secondary Education Certificate (BHSEC) Examination for class XII yesterday. They were the first batch of class X passed students who were enrolled in class XI without cut-off points. Hence, more than 13,000 students from 74 higher secondary schools appeared in the exams last year.

More than 12,000 students passed the examination. Students performed well in Media studies and less in computer studies. Compared to 91.55% in 2019, the overall pass percentage is 90.63%, which has slightly decreased by 0.92% last year.

“The COVID stress could be one of the reasons for the decrease in the pass percentage, another could be because last year we had less contact teaching and more of virtual teaching. Due to two lockdowns, the children didn’t go to school so there was a disturbance for the learning of the children,” said Sherab Gyeltshen, a Subject coordinator in BCSEA.

Meanwhile, Kelden Ghalay from Damphu Central School topped the Science stream with 92.50 %. In the Commerce category, Tshering Dekar from Rangjung Central School topped with 89.75 %. Sonam Tshomo studying at Motithang H.S.S topped the Arts stream with 88 %, and Lodray Jamtsho from Taktse Central School topped the language and culture studies certificate examination with 83.5%.
