Thimphu students attend Dharma Camp

About 150 students from different schools of Thimphu are attending a week-long Dharma Camp where the day begins at 5 in the morning.

The sessions at the camp include lectures on Buddhism with particular focus taming one’s mind.

“I learned a lot about Buddhism,” Kinley Dorji, one of the student participants, said.

“We are also given lessons on our history, culture and tradition. I think it’s important for every Bhutanese to know about these things.”

The students are also being taught about how to be responsible citizens.

Apart from Buddhism, a wide range of other issues, including waste management and substance abuse, are being covered.

“We learned about the ill effects of drug and alcohol abuse. I want to take these messages back to my friends and family,” Sangay Lhaden, another participant, said.

The camp is an initiative of the Institute of Science of Mind. The Central Monastic Body provides financial support for the camp.

This is the third edition of such a camp. The institute plans to organize the camp in other dzongkhags in the future.
