Gewog offices of Sarpang can soon enjoy faster internet connectivity. TashiCell, the service provider will upgrade its internet speed in all 12 gewogs in the dzongkhag. The matter was highlighted during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT).
Local leaders said slow internet speed hampers service delivery of Government to Citizen ( G2C) services which are provided online.
“We are provided with internet port which 10 people can have access to. At present, only three of us use that service but still the net is very slow, at times, it is difficult even to check mails,” said Yonten Dorji, the Administrative Officer of Chhuzanggang Gewog.
Other local government office bearers said the government has spend lot of money for G2C services and other online facilities but to no avail.
“Unfortunately, we are not able to use them due to slow internet speed. It takes ages to open a single website,” said the Mangmi of Shompangkha Gewog.
According to TashiCell, they will upgrade the existing speed of 35 megabits per second to 189 megabits per second.
“As per the order from the Ministry of Information and Communications in August, we will speed up the internet. Work will start as soon as possible,” said the Manager of TashiCell, Sonam Rinchen.
Works to connect the gewog administrations in Sarpang with internet started in 2011 and today, all such offices have access to the facility.
